Environmental Sustainability

Tucker House Renewal Centre is committed to modeling a sustainable way of living by creating a centre that is environmentally-friendly. Since developing a concern for the environment several years ago, the centre has already made several changes including:

• Switching many lights to compact fluorescents
• Using washable hand towels instead of disposable paper towels
• Promoting energy and water conservation with signage for guests
• Using eco-friendly cleaners in the kitchen and washrooms
• Growing produce organically for the Community-Supported Agriculture program

There is a long way to go before Tucker House can be a true model of sustainability.  We have recently had an Energy Audit performed at the house by the Envirocentre to begin thinking of additional changes that can be made including a solar water heater and other conservation techniques.  If you have ideas or suggestions or would like to be part of the envisioning group for creating a more sustainable centre, please contact Kristina Inrig ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Green Design Plan

Staff and volunteers are working together to develop a comprehensive Green Design Plan for Tucker House.  This will include everything from energy efficiency to renewable energy and water conservation.
