Monique Lefebvre, Executive Director

About Monique: Monique has a B.A. in International Development from the University of Ottawa and a certificate as a Sustainability Leader from The Natural Step. She has been working for over two years at the Canadian Environmental Network as a National Caucus Coordinator. Prior to this work, Monique volunteered with environmental and social justice groups and partook in international projects in Latin America. The first project being a project to build a school in a remote village in the Dominican Republic with her high school, l’École secondaire l’Escale in Rockland, and Solidarité Jeunesse. A few years later, having gained more international experience, she co-led a group of high school students from L’Escale in their fund raising for and building the expansion of a water system in Peru.  When Monique is not busy at work, you can find her gardening, cooking up a storm and biking happily in the Glebe or on Tucker Street.

Why is Monique at Tucker House? Monique comes to Tucker House with memories of biking by the House as a child brought up in Rockland where the house resides. Growing up in this small town, she aspired to travel abroad to contribute to  making this world a better place. As such, studied international development, experienced it on the ground, and concluded that the most change one can instill on our planet must start in our communities, in Monique’s case her hometown Rockland.

About Kristina: Kristina has a Bachelor of Public Affairs and Policy Management (B.P.A.P.M.) with a focus on Environment and Development from Carleton University. She has also obtained a Capacity Building Certificate from the Wellesley Institute and is working on a Fundraising Certificate at Algonquin College. Kristina was the Executive Director at Tucker House from 2005-2010 until moving to a program role.  She also is the owner of a local green business, Sustainable Foundations Inc and works with other environmental organizations, including Faith & the Common Good, for fundraising and program management activities.

Why Kristina works at TH: "Tucker House is an inspiring organization to work for. I believe in the mission and vision that we are trying to promote and I think that we need more positive examples of sustainable change in our community. After learning about world development issues through my formal education, I felt that my contribution to changing the world should be within my own country. Sustainable development begins here."

Damien Martin , Program Director

About Damien:
Damien has a B.A in Psychology from Wilfrid Laurier University, and a Bachelor of Education from York University. After four years of teaching grade seven in Brampton and Mississauga, Damien and his wife Andrea and daughter Rowan moved to Ottawa in 2006 to be closer to family. Damien’s family has recently grown to include son Griffin. He is passionate about many environmental issues but his greatest interests are in the interactions between the food system and the environment.

Why Damien works at TH:"Tucker House represents an opportunity to combine my environmental interests with my love of education and sustainable gardening. I am able to pass on what I have learned in a fun and interactive way to a generation that seems keen to learn. Today’s generation of young people needs to receive the message of sustainability and I am happy to be a part of bringing them that message."

Nathalie Mathieu, Community Coordinator

About Nathalie: Nathalie has a Bachelor's degree in Atmospheric Sciences and a Master's degree in Environment from McGill University. After working for non-profit environmental organizations in Ottawa, she decided to embark on a two-year journey to Japan. She taught English there and continued in Gatineau after coming back. She has recently become a neigbhour of Tucker House after moving in Rockland.

Why Nathalie works at TH:"After coming back from Japan I sat down and planned my career: I wanted to continue teaching, help create environmental awareness, work for a non-profit organization and help people in my community, but more than that I wanted to create a positive change for the planet and the people living on it. I was thrilled to discover Tucker House's mission and offered my services. Tucker House is a great organization, lead by extraordinary people. I am very proud to be part of it, making small changes today so that there's a better tomorrow."

Diana Brushey, Eco-Spiritual Coordinator

Diana has been working with Tucker House Renewal Centre as a volunteer since 2004 and began part-time in the Fall of 2006 to assist with curriculum development and programming.

Why Diana works at TH:
"I fell in love with Tucker House when I first came out to visit the site in 2000. Rev. Isobel McGregor and I had been in contact about Befriending the Earth and had great conversations about eco-education; at the time my husband and I were Co-Directors of an environmental camp at Carleton University. I loved the idea of Country Fun and how it blended faith and ecology. It fit so well with my worldview that I started volunteering, and my husband and I came out to lead the nature walks. Since that time I have spent many happy hours wandering about the property, learning about the history and wildlife. Tucker House nurtures my soul."

Why Tobias works at TH:
""Life is a network of relationships. It is apparent to me, in the early days of the 21st century, that the human race needs to take a long look at the kind of relationships we have; with each other, with spirit, and with our planet and the other beings that share it. I am happy to be in a place where, if only in a small way, that kind of examination and exploration is encouraged."
